Rices Bookshop, formerly Mann's Bookshop, was bought by Ron Rice in 1969 from Norah Mann. Her husband Jim had been in partnership with Ashwoods before striking out on his own in Newcastle in the late 1950's. The business has been at it's current address since 1965. Previous addresses include 445 Hunter St & 102 King St.

Soon after buying the shop, Ron branched into records when a box of 78's arrived with a collection of books. It has been a significant part of the business ever since.

We have weathered earthquakes and flood to become the oldest secondhand bookshop in Newcastle - with the widest range of books including comics, old magazines, first editions, bestsellers, collectables and music including cassette tapes, C.D.s, L.P.s & singles.

Our latest branch is secondhand stereos. Very popular, we find it difficult to keep up with the demand. So if you know of an unused unwanted record player let us find it a new home. We also provide stereo needles, belts and repairs

I'm here practically everyday of the week, so ring or pop in - if I haven't got what you want I may be able to help you find it.
